"Take a look, but please move while doing it!"
Basically, people should see their potential to transform themselves like the optical adjustment of a virtual lens of their own capacity for meaning.
"Take a look, but please move while doing it!" Spontaneously emotionally motivated search movements lead us attentively, alert and lively into the unexploredness of our sensual reception. The swaying body and the eyes dancing in the head are a highly developed optical system of inquiring, conscious and altered perception. An instrument set can be adjusted, an instrument can be tuned. The precise adjustment of the consciousness apparatus to the optical stimulus is essential for the quality of experience of what is seen. Through mental and sensory transpositions of this Imaginatorium, spaces of perception can be captured opto-tactilely. "What am I actually seeing there?", says the affected sense proband. These vague visual impressions on the retina can also be fed back and intensified by the imaginations induced in the brain. This energetic-synaptic interplay of the stimulus feedback - the jumping synapses produce tiny electric currents wherever they discharge spontaneously - can even extend to produce hypnotic effects. Our black-and-white sensitive rods in the ocular fundus make it possible to initially see a chaos of light and dark values in the shaded hatching, which look like a charcoal drawing. Depending on the plasticity of the neuronal structure of the affected brain, what is seen forms a sensorially expended gestalt. As is well known, according to gestalt theory, the whole is always more than its partitions. These aesthetic perceptions of the analog-haptic as well as the mental-abstract now allow the supposedly figurative, informal, but for particularly sensitive minds also obscure fantasies and ghost sightings, to move into the field of vision, as the title VERA IKON suggests. The fragments, images and phenomena that change in the actuated perception process are a rapid sequence of individual images that form a constantly repeating loop of tissue-like patterns of gray halftone values on the Mind Machine display. Their personal interpretation of meaning is an intuitive-subjective result of their own perception and imagination.
It is the fragility and the chaotic indeterminacy of the fluid Imaginatorium of the human being that generate cognitive reinterpretations of what is seen through neuronal derivations. Searching for neuro-aesthetic clues here would mean locating Thomas Scheffer's VERA IKON in the context of a departure to the limits of what is mentally and medially possible and impossible. Feeling into the variability of the neural structure of one's own imaginative capacity is a perception experiment that only those who get themselves involved can experience in full.
